IT'S great to see Peterborough Lions Rugby Club coming up with a brilliant idea for a sports complex which would benefit the whole community in the Bretton area.
Rising from the ashes of Bretton Woods Community School would come brand new facilities catering not only for rugby, but for cricket and tennis too. And an 800-seat grandstand, a new clubhouse and even a micro-brewery on the site would ensure that other sections of the community could put the facilities to good use.
This is just the kind of innovative thinking, backed by private finance, that's needed to encourage, develop and nurture young sporting talent, while helping to bring people together.
In fact the benefits of this project, if it gets the go-ahead from the city council, would doubtless be felt outside the boundaries of Bretton as we're sure the facilities would attract sports organisations from other parts of the city. Presumably the stadium could also be used for events that aren't necessarily of a sporting nature, like open-air concerts, or big community occasions too.
The plan certainly warrants careful consideration by the council as it would be a major boost for Bretton.
