NOT too long ago, 15-year-old Sami Ankers was what could easily be described as a stereotypical teenager – as often portrayed in comedy shows like Little Britain and the Catherine Tate Show.
Such was her behaviour she was excluded from two schools and seemed destined for the scrapheap when her life had barely started.
In fact, she was the type of tearaway most elderly people would cross the street to avoid.
Ironic then that since taking up a place at the city council's referral unit – the Learning Education and Achievement Partnership (LEAP) – she has turned her life around, and has done so by working with the elderly.
She helps organise activities for pensioners who meet at the Salvation Army citadel twice a week, serving them meals and sitting around having a good old chin-wag.
Now she has been nominated for a national young persons' award. We wish her well.

There are an awful lot of people united in their support for you. Keep up the good work.
