It's not the first time, and it won't be the last – but, once more, Peterborough and its residents have got a rap on the knuckles from a green watchdog.
The WWF has come up with a clever example to show how quickly we are using up the earth's resources.
According to the conservation organisation, Peterborough has used up its entitlement after just 112 days of the year. May 2 was the day when the city went into eco-debt.
And it revealed how the city produces enough greenhouse gases a year to fill the cathedral every two minutes.
Of course, the city is not alone, but it is a stark reminder of how leaving lights on, nipping a few hundred yards in the car and taking foreign holidays uses up energy.
There is some good news though. As Ashley Baxter, of the Energy Saving Trust, revealed, taking some simple steps to cut energy use can help save the planet – and save each household up to £300.
Saving money and saving the planet – that has to be a win-win situation.
