There is clearly a lucrative, albeit illegal, market for scrap metal. By now we are used to stories of thieves clambering on to the roofsof themselves to lead.
Now it seems power sub-stations are the latest target. But any raider who breaks into one is in real danger of killing themselves. No matter what potential profit there is, surely it can't be worth losing your life for?

These criminals have no s
ocial conscience so they will be unconcerned about the effects their actions will have on people who suffer power cuts.

The only way to stop this modern day plague is for the courts to give them stiff prison sentences.

Good luck to Aston and JLS

This weekend will be an important milestone in the young life of Aston Merrygold.

The talented former Jack Hunt schoolboy, together with his three pals who make up JLS, will be singing his heart out in front of the nation.

They will be hoping that viewers of The X Factor will rate them high enough to keep them on the show.

Like all the acts, they will need all the help they can get, so hopefully Aston's home town will get behind him and cast its vote for the band.

Everyone's a winner in Great Eastern Run

And good luck to all those taking part in Sunday's Great Eastern Run.

It has quickly become one of the highlights on the city's calendar – not least because charities will benefit by thousands of pounds.
