ONE of the biggest success stories of the thriving girls football scene brought the curtain down on five silverware-laden seasons in familiarly triumphant fashion.
Diamonds Under 16s completed their final campaign together by lifting the Cambs Cup following a 4-1 defeat of Royston Town at Milton Road, Cambridge, to complete a double after also securing Cambs League succcess.
A hat-trick from goal-machine Zoe Watkin and another from inspirational captain Demi Barai made sure Diamonds signed off in style in their county showpiece.
The team's latest successes take their overall trophy haul to four league titles, three cup competitions and a host of successes in both local and national five-a-side events.
It is no surprise that manager Phil Pavey is a hugely proud man. He said: "It is sad to let go of the team as we are like one big, happy family.
"The girls are all fantastic talents and they have received some exceptional support from their parents over the years.
"Most of the squad has been together from the start and has remained intact despite the girls receiving lots of opportunities to move on to Centre of Excellence set-ups."
The majority of the Diamonds squad will now move into Under 17 football as a stepping stone into the senior game under the Peterborough Ladies banner.
Diamonds: Hannah Bonney, Chelsea Sandford, Paige Moore, Emily Pavey, Hayley Crockett, Jess Ward, Joyce Worth, Demi Barai, Hayley Warren, Zoe Watkin, Jade Fryer, Chyna Bonham, Liz Oremerod.
