Peterborough ladies teach the students a footballing lesson

Peterborough Ladies taught the students of Cambridge University a footballing lesson on Sunday.
Second-half strikes from Vicki King and Hannah Stubbs earned the city side maximum Eastern Region Premier Division points, but the scoreline was hardly flattering according to player-manager Maria Rudd.
"It could have been 8-0, but their keeper made one brilliant save after another," admitted Rudd who discovered the University stopper's talents first hand when seeing a goalbound lob kept out.
Rudd had a hand in the opener when her flick allowed King to burst clear and slot home before some smart passing involving the departing Steph Pepper, Stacey Shinn and Clare Knibbs paved the way for Stubbs to seal the points from the edge of the box.
Lou Nicholls saw her penalty saved as Peterborough failed to add to their tally. Rudd added: We played well in patches and that was more than enough to get the job done.
"We are going to lose Steph soon as she goes off to university and she will be sorely missed."
Ladies are on the look-out for new blood, particularly a goalkeeper and assistant manager, but only experienced 11-a-side players should apply.
