Young Ciaran went to Specsavers . . . and came back all goggle-eyed

SAWTRY Under 9 skipper Ciaran O'Neill had his eyes on the prize when his side lifted the Sawtry Sixes trophy at the weekend.
Wearing new sports goggles developed by team sponsor Specsavers, Ciaran led his team to victory wearing his new hi-tech eye-wear which meant he never had to take his eye off the ball.
Ciaran needs to wear glasses at all times and up to now wearing traditional glasses had been holding him back.
But since Sawtry's young captain was given the special rubberized eyewear, he has been able to play the game without risk of damaging his regular glasses - which also tended to fall off during games.
The new goggles, however, are designed to grip to the head far better than traditional spectacles as well as being less likely to break during the cut and thrust of junior football.
And eagle-eyed O'Neill put his new goggles to good use as he scored in the penalty shoot-out against Brampton Spartans to help Sawtry lift the trophy.
Manager Mark O'Neill said: "Ciaran has really grown in confidence as a footballer since Specsavers stepped in with their offer as he doesn't have to worry about his glasses getting damaged during games anymore.
"Now he can just concentrate on his game and helping the team who were fantastic throughout the tournament. All the lads were first class and were obviously delighted to win such a keenly-fought event."
