THE Stanground Wasps' junior tournament was a huge success with 43 teams from across the area taking part at the weekend football fest.
With age groups ranging from the non-competitive under 7s up to under 10s, all mini soccer ages were represented at the six-a-side event which was held at Stanground College on Sunday.

And after some excellent games of football three worthy winners emerged.

It was Hampton who scooped top honours in the Under 8s, Hungate Yellows won the Under 9s while Wisbech St Mary were crowned kings of the Under 10 age group.

For Hampton the trophy sets them up perfectly ahead of next seasons' Junior Alliance campaign after young hot shot Bradley Catton fired his side to the trophy with the only goal against Wisbech.

Joint manager David Arnold said: "It was an excellent team effort and while Bradley scored a thunderbolt to win it for us, all the boys were magnificent.

"This win as set us up perfectly for the start of the new campaign and hope we can carry on our winning ways in the Red Zone next season."

And while there were no home club winners, despite Wasps reaching the under 9s final, tournament organiser Dave Atkinson was still delighted with day.

"It was great to see so many team down here for our tournament and they certainly provided everyone with a great days entertainment," he said.

"The tournament was a massive success and as a club we would like to thank al those who helped organise the event and to Stanground College for hosting.

"I would also like to give a big shout to all the players, managers and coaches for producing some great football, all played in the right spirit - thanks for coming and we hope to see you all next year."
