ABBEY RED 0 STANGROUND 4 (PFA Under 13 Cup final)
STANGROUND Juniors rediscovered their winning touch when it mattered most at a sun-drenched London Road yesterday afternoon.

After losing the race for Division One title honours and being beaten by Wisbech St Mary to the Junior Alliance Cup, Stua
rt Kisbee's young side arrived at the home of Posh determined to make up for those disappointments to end the season on a high.

And despite being forced to wait until the second half for being allowed anything resembling a decent chance by Second Division Abbey, two goals each for Josh Rosser and Ryan Hobbs after the break sealed a 4-0 win which means Stanground end the season with the double.

With the Hunts County Cup already in the trophy cabinet, a performance of real class from Kisbee's cup kings in what must surely be the biggest occasion his side has been involved in, ensured the PFA Cup will soon be joining it.

With a boisterous crowd approaching 300 giving both sides great support, for Kisbee and his players it will be a day they will never forget.

He said: "It is a great occasion to come down here to London Road and get the chance to play and I know the lads have been really looking forward to it - as have I.

"We have struggled with a few injuries this season and we have had a few disappointments to so this win makes up for it. There is an added pressure playing here and I thought the lads coped really well with that.

"I thought we struggled a bit in the first half but fair play to Abbey, they made it very hard for us and we had to defend well at times before we got the goals. But after the break we looked a different side and once Josh got the first we never really looked like losing it. The boys can be proud of their effort today and for what they have achieved all season, they have been fantastic."

And it is not just Stanground who can be proud of their performance yesterday afternoon.

Abbey more than played their part in a game which - in the first half at least - looked like going either way as man-of-the-match Elijah Jones, Daniel Marriott and Jordan Matthews all threatened to make a mockery of the divisonal gap which exists between these two sides.

But minutes after the restart a quickfire double from Rosser - including a spectacular overhead kick - saw Stanground take control of the game with Joel Smith and Konnor Greenhow both doing well before Hobbs' late double wrapped things up.

The result means that for now it's back to the drawing board for Abbey ahead of what should be a real push for promotion next season.

Manager Richard Marriott said: "I am really proud of the boys and I thought we were right in it up to half-time. But they took their chances after the break and we have no complaints.
