Powerleague 4 Parkside 0 (Under 10 White Zone)
POWERLEAGUE saved their best for last in beating Parkside 4-0 to round off their White Zone season in style.
The Stanground side produced what manager Keith Denham later described as their best display of the season to beat struggling Parkside and secure their highest ever league finish.
In their two previous seasons Powerleague had never managed to climb off the foot of the table but goals from Aiden Steels, Thomas Moore, Finn Brooks and Liam Whitney changed all that on Saturday.
The win in their last-but-one-game boosted Powerleague up into ninth place – not exactly nose bleed territory but a welcome improvement nonetheless according to a delighted Denham.
He said: "I think that was the best we have played all season, it was really good pass and move stuff and we were easy winners in the end.
"Although we were only one goal up at half-time we never looked like throwing the result away and we are really pleased with our league finish.
"It is our highest ever finish and has really given us something to build on ahead of the step up to a 11-a-side football next season.
"Unlike some teams, I feel we will adjust well to it as we have always had a 13 or 14 man squad and regularly practice the bigger game which I hope will give us an advantage and we are really looking forward to next season already."
Parkside are also looking ahead with optimism after enjoying mixed fortunes in their Junior Alliance debut year.
Manager Jamie Payne said: "We have not been together long so I am pleased overall with the lads' progress even if we have been a bit up and down.
"Against Powerleague I just don't think we were on it at all which was a bit of a disappointment considering we beat them last time out.
"But we are improving all the time as the lads gel together as a unit and I have seen enough to convince me that with time and a bit of work they can develop into a decent football team."
