POWERLEAGUE have one hand on the Division One title after coming through a gruelling schedule of three games in a week.

Starting last Tuesday the city side played and beat Glinton and Deeping before rounding off with a 1-0 win at Bourne on Sunday
to put themselves six points clear with three games to go.

And the highlight for manager Denny McManus was the 6-0 win against second-placed Deeping last Thursday in which Simon Isaac hit a hat-trick - a result which has all but secured the title for the League KO Cup finalists.

McManus said: "It has been a terrific effort from the lads playing all that football in such a short space of time and winning all the games is incredible.

"We really needed to dig deep to find the energy but we did it.

I was particularly pleased with our performance against Deeping which was one of our best displays of the season."

Powerleague now have to play Peterborough City twice before taking on Deeping in their last league game of the season.

But before he can even think about winning a third league title in as many years, McManus must juggle his depleted squad ahead of their cup final with surprise packages Wisbech St Mary on Sunday.

"I have Ryan Lomas, Simon Isaac and Nathan Woodward all away on a football tour of America so we will be down to the bare bones for the Wisbech game but we will not be using that as an excuse," he added.

"I do not know a lot about Wisbech because they play in the Second Division but we will be giving them a lot of respect as to reach the final they must be a decent team.

"We would dearly love to win the league and cup double but we will just have to wait and see as there is still a bit of football to be played yet."
