NETHERTON Hawks made a little bit of club history at the weekend with their first-ever win against their stablemates the Falcons.
A goal in each half from Benfica trialist Marcio Martins sent the Hawks soaring into dreamland and up to third in Div
ision One with an impressive 2-0 victory.
Both Netherton teams were promoted last season and while it was the Falcons who took the Division Two championship trophy, Glen Hardy's Hawks have effected a real powershift down at the Grange.
He said: "We were absolutely over the moon as it is the first time we have ever beaten them at anything so it was extra special for all of us.
"As we expected they gave us a very hard game but we just shaded it in the end and I think we fully deserved the win. All the boys played tremendously well and we played some really nice football.
"We have come on no end since the end of last season and I fully expect us to be up there come the end of the season.
"When you look at our results and those of the Falcons this season you have to say there has been a bit of powershift at the club and the boys should take a lot of credit for that.
"I do not think we have a chance of unsettling Gunthorpe or Woodston but I am backing us to be right up there this season if we keep playing the way we have done so far."
