Under 18: DEEPING made an emphatic start to their Lincolnshire County Cup campaign by handing out a first-class drubbing to wobbly Waddington at Outgang Road.
Despite missing some key players, Rob Jerram's mercurial side swiftly turned this match into an out-and-out goalfeast.

A hat-trick for Aidan Woolfe, two for Dean Thomas and well-taken goals for Neil Walker, Adam Cornell and Lewis Godfrey wrapped up this one-sided contest 8-0 to leave Jerram eagerly anticipating the second round draw.

He said: "I was a little concerned beforehand because we were without strikers Max Webb (playing for Blackstones) and Aidan Finn (ineligible due to age), so Lewis Godfrey was the lone striker.

"But he was superb and unlike last season we are not just relying on one or two players to get the goals.

"Obviously I was delighted to score eight and it could easily have been a lot more, but I was equally pleased with the clean sheet because we have been getting a little sloppy at the back once we think a game is won.

"Now we just have to hope the draw is kind to us and we can progress further in this competition because it is a great chance for us to prove a few points to a few people."

AT the end of last season Peterborough City B almost folded as a club.

So it is all the more remarkable that three games into the new Under 18 Division Two season they now sit proudly at the top of the table after a battling to a 1-0 win against Thorpe Wood B.

A goal 10 minutes from time for Antonio Monterio gave Tom Ginty's side the win which keeps them three points ahead of stablemates City A, but all that could well change this Sunday.

Ginty said: "Considering we nearly folded last season it is a great effort for the lads to have done what they have done so far, especially as we started with nine men.

"Thorpe Wood gave us a real game and after we got the goal we were holding on a bit to the final whistle so we are delighted with the points.

"But it is going to be a hard old season as at this age it is hard to send out a regular team what with all the other commitments my players have. So there could be some strange results.

"Hopefully though I will have a good side out for our game with City A this weekend, they are second and we are top so it should be a cracking game of football."
