UNDER 12: WOODSTON Blue continued their impressive start to the new Division One campaign with a 4-1 win against Netherton Falcons.
The reigning champions, managed by Terry Avent with the help of former Posh star Dave Farrell, now sit top of the league level on points with deadly rivals Gunthorpe after recording their fourth straight win on Sunday.

Goals for Daniel Rowe, Reece
Walker, Jordan Temple and Jaidan Furnell saw the Falcons downed in this rain-hit clash as Woodston moved ominously to the top of the table.

Farrell said: "We did really well against a good Netherton side and got the rewards we deserved for an excellent peformance.

"During the summer we have been working extremely hard with the boys on a few areas, most notably in defence where they have improved immensely.

"At the end of last season we went to Gunthorpe needing a win to clinch the league and since getting that result I think the lads have a lot more grit and determination.

"We went behind against Netherton but instead of letting our heads drop we kept moving the ball around and creating chances and in the end we ran out worthy winners.

"But we are under no illusions about how hard it is going to be to defend our title.

"Gunthorpe pushed us all the way last season and the way they have started there is every reason to think they will take it down to the wire this time as well."

EVERY game is a learning curve for Leverington Blue this season but it is doubtful if Mark Johnson's side learnt anything from a one-sided match with Sawtry.

Hat-tricks for both Harry Clarke and Jordan Webb plus goals for Jake Smith, Lewis Bass, Craig Pack and Jeff Bate saw Division Three's bottom side beaten 10-0 by last season's Fenland League runners-up.

In fairness to Sawtry it should be noted that Nick Thorpe's side could only muster nine men, making Leverington's passage up to third in the table far smoother than it otherwise might have been.

Leverington manager Mark Johnson said: "Sawtry look to have some good players but at this level it is a huge disadvantage to have to try and compete with just nine men.

"By this age the boys know how to make that count and once the goals started going in it was very hard for Sawtry and I do feel for them a bit. I am sure they will be able to compete when back up to full numbers.

"But we could only beat what was in front of us and the lads went about their task very well and played some good football.

"Because we are new to the league, every game is a new experience for us and we hope to learn something new but while we didn't learn a lot from this the three points are very welcome.

"We have Eye in the cup next week which we are looking forward to because they will be right up there in the league and it will be our first chance to get a good look at them."

PARKWAY Eagles need strikers and midfielders for both their under 10 and under 12 teams.
