DEEPING Rangers Under 11s beat all-comers to lift their first trophy as an 11-a-side squad at their own invitational tournament on Sunday (August 17).
Deeping beat Powerleague 3-0 and Oundle Juniors 8-0 before drawing 1-1 with Yaxley Yellows in their final group match.
The hosts then outclassed Yaxley Whites 5-1 in the semi-final before pipping Stamford 2-1 in the final courtesy of two penalties
from skipper Jack Baxter.
Deeping manager Dave Dorward said: "This was a great warm-up for the coming season. My lads really rose to the challenge and have really buckled down in training over the past few weeks to prove to themselves that they are capable of competing at the highest level.
"Every single player excelled today and it is impossible to choose a player of the tournament. But, special mention must go to Callum Ward-Jones who was outstanding in goal, Joshua Cameron, who scored an amazing hat-trick in the semi-final, and captain Jack Baxter, who led from the front and scored two very important penalties in the final."
Deeping Rangers: Callum Ward-Jones, Tom Smith, Jason Lythgoe, James Dorward, Ethan Gale, Zac Allen, James Morten, George Hick, Rhys Young, Joshua Cameron, Jackson Andrews, Jack Baxter, Ryan Wilkinson.
