QUADRUPLE-chasing Netherton B got a rather easier time than they wanted at Coates as they warmed up for their big Northants County Cup clash this evening.

Having already snaffled the League and PFA Cups, Marco De Cotis's side travelled to play Coa
tes B intent on racking up a good win to improve their goal difference and enhance their Division One title prospects.

But after smashing their under strength hosts 28-2, De Cotis conceded that the mammoth margin of victory could actually have been counter-productive.

Aidan Stanford (6), Ben Cullen (6), Adam Scott (4), Lewis Stone (4), Nathan Plant (3), Tiago Rodrigues, Michael De Cotis, Dominic Jones, Callum Atkinson, Ashley Bone were all on target as the city side ran amok.

He said: "We are in pole position for the league but I must admit I stopped watching after about 10 minutes.

"But at least Coates bothered to try and put a team out which is more than we have had with the two games we still have to play against Stamford and Deeping B – both of whom have pulled out of games due to lack of players.

"We wanted a few goals, so I was pleased in that respect, but it was hardly good preparation for our Northants Cup game with Northampton Town Under 18s tonight."

Netherton are now hoping to play their cancelled fixtures against Stamford and Deeping, knowing they only need one win to guarantee the top flight crown.

AND even if De Cotis' side fail to lift the Division One title, Netherton will still be celebrating.

After a Jon Kerrison double in a 2-1 win sunk Sawtry's title hopes, a 6-1 triumph against Wisbech St Mary sent Netherton A top of the table.
