IF ICA Juventus are to complete a successful defence of the Hunts County Cup then they will be doing it the hard way.
Despite smashing 17 unanswered goals in their opening game against sorry St Ives B, Juve boss Gino Nespoli is well aware that thi
ngs are about to get a lot tougher for his high-flying side.
With a trip to Godmanchester looming in the next round followed by possible clashes with St Ives A and the Huntingdon Rowdies, Nespoli is determined Sunday's cakewalk against the Cambs League strugglers does not leave his players with any false impressions.
He said: "St Ives B are a pretty poor side and I know that it is going to be a lot harder over the next few rounds. I have looked at the draw and if we get past Godmanchster we are in the same half as St Ives A who are a totally different propostion to their B team and then we could get Huntingdon Rowdies, who are another cracking side."
Scorers on Sunday were Reece Currie (4), Guiseppe Russo (3), Miles Hyndman (2), Dion Di Cataldo (2), Damien Ramm, Matthew Martin, James Nespoli, Patrick Holding, Sam Jones and Christopher Pope.
A TEAM with slightly less ambitious targets are Ryhall who hammered Division Two rivals Rippingale 7-0 thanks to goals by Alex Campbell-Waggott (4), Matt Dalton (2) and Will Harris.
Manager Dave McQueen said: "We have won two and lost two of our games so far and overall I am pleased with the way we have played.
"I hope we can be in the top half of the table but this is a very tough league. Sawtry and Wisbech St Mary are both good sides and the Saints are my pick for the title."
Under 16 P&T Panthers boss Roger Harvey is a man who likes to look on the bright side of life.
So when goals by Liam Logan-Brown, Rowan Williamson and Jake Waller earned his side a 3-2 Division Two win against March on Sunday – their first win of the season at the fourth time of trying – Harvey was over the moon.
Harvey said: "The team played really well and deserved to win. We scored three excellent goals and Jake's was a wonderful strike. He beat three or four men before smashing it in from just inside the area.
"We lost our first six games last season so this is a massive improvement."
Guyhirn picked up their second win of the season in Division Three thanks to goals for Sam Stockbridge (2) and Jack Howsley-Scott against Benwick on Sunday and manager Andrew Laws hopes it will signal the start of a promotion charge.
He said: "Rippingale and Stamford were too good to be placed in this league last season and they duly took the two top promotion places.
"This time without them I expect us to be right up there battling for promotion."
