Diamonds closing in on league and cup double
DIAMONDS Under 14s returned from a long lay-off to boost their hopes of honours on two fronts.
The city girls racked up back-to-back victories over Comberton Crusaders in both Cambs League and League Cup action.
The 10-1 league triumph - which featured goals from Natasha Applegate (3), Jade Ramm (2), Louise Burgess (2), Cassie Steward, Georgia Newman and Simeone Compton - left Diamonds just one point away from being certain of the title.
And they are also on the verge of a cup triumph after beating the same opponents 6-0.
Diamonds were guilty of being over-confident in a scrappy first half and were lucky to possess a 2-0 interval lead thanks to goals from Applegate and Steward.
But after a stern half-time ticking off resulted in a far better second half showing as Applegate completed her second hat-trick in the space of a few days, Steward added her second and Newman also found the net.
Diamonds squad: Scarlett Field, Elizabeth Walker, Jade Ramm, Rebeka Pearson, Zarina Rogalla, Victoria Howchin, Simeone Compton, Georgia Howsam, Georgia Newman, Rachel Anderson, Alisha Coleman, Cassie Steward, Natasha Applegate, Louise Burgess.
CHAMPIONS Deeping Diamonds proved too hot for runners-up Whittlesey as the curtain came down on the Fenland Under 11 League season.
The title winners were given an early shock when Annie Possnett fired Whittlesey ahead after only 50 seconds, but Deeping had turned things around before the break through strikes from top scorer Yasmin Green and Kerry Chawko.
Green added another swiftly after the restart but Possnett again pulled Whittlesey into contention before Deeping captain Amie Ford seized centre stage with a hat-trick.
Now these two teams will meet again next weekend in a cup semi-final.
Deeping Diamonds: Rebecca Warr, Jasmine Maude, Libby Field, Emily Sheppard, Sophie Langan, Amie Ford, Kerry Chawko, Yasmin Green, Shelby Culff, Alice Lavendar, Jessica Woosnam.
Whittlesey: Emma Johnson, Stacie Boon, Charley Ireland, Chloe Blythe, Sophie Powell, Taylor-Jo Reade, Georgia Alegre, Sofia Green, Annie Posnett, Leah Anthony, Ellie Cranwell.
Whittlesey had secured second spot by beating Hungate 1-0 in their previous outing.
A 20-yard free-kick from Sophie Powell provided a spectacular winning goal.
HAT-TRICK heroine Megan Parrett made sure Posh Girls Under 11s roared into the Cambs League Cup final and claimed the local bragging rights in the process.
Parrett was the star turn as her team overcame fellow city side Diamonds 4-3 in a sizzling semi-final showdown.
She broke the deadlock before Diamonds claimed two goals that gave them the edge at the interval, but Parrett didn't let it stay that way for long.
She dusted herself down to tuck away a penalty after being tripped in the box before Alessia Mundo gave Posh the edge with a smart finish.
Parrett then added their fourth before Diamonds hit back in a grandstand finish, but Posh held on.
