BOURNE caused the biggest upset in Peterborough Youth League football this week by knocking Deaconians out of the League Cup.

A 4-1 result at Milking Nook Drove saw the Division One leaders booted out by a team who play their football two leagues below.

What makes the result all the more remarkable is that Dave Smith's side beat Deaconians in the cup last season too.

And if the city side arrived in Bourne looking for revenge, the top flight pacesetters were in for a of a shock as their hosts took the initiative and never let it go.

After flying into a 2-0 lead through Leo Rytina and Ollie Gedney in the first half, the same players then doubled their tallies after the interval as Bourne cruised home.

Smith said: "We kicked them out last year and they definitely came here looking for a bit of revenge but we made sure they never got it.

"We led from start to finish and thoroughly deserved the result but my defence of Jake Smith, Curt Lane, Liam Smith and Charlie Eccot were very good when they got back to 2-1 and put us under a bit of pressure.

"We held them out and when Leo got his second the result was never in doubt. It is certainly nice to have taken the same big scalp for the second season in a row and now we want to go on and win it."

WITH Rippingale B due to fold at the end of the season manager Mark Schiavi is determined to go out with a bang.

And winning the League Cup would seem to be a good way of making that happen after last season's beaten finalists dumped out Glinton on Sunday with a 2-1 win at the Jubilee Field.

Goals for Dan Schiavi and Tom Ewles sealed the result for Division Two Rippingale.

Schiavi said: "It was a good performance against a team who play their football in the league above, especially after our excellent result in the Lincolnshire Cup where we beat Lowlands.

"We would like to do well in the league but promotion is academic as we are folding this season and a lot of the lads will come with me to Bourne.

"So we are really targeting the cups and would love the chance to get back to the League Cup final and avenge our defeat at the hands of Yaxley last season."

Another move for Schiavi in search of his pot of gold?

The guy should buy himself a mobile home. He also should stop putting 7 day notices in on players who don't want to move and try training up what he has rather than taking short cuts. Same applies to Stamford
