BOURNE Claret continued their impressive start to the season by winning their 'David v Goliath' clash against the Netherton Falcons 4-0.
By his own admission Clarets boss David Dodds doesn't have the biggest side in the Red Zone but what they lack
in height they more than make up for in heart.
And after weathering an early storm from Netherton, who began the match brightly, goals for Liam Harper (2), Ben Woodward and Jack Dodd made the game safe by half-time.
The three points mean Bourne now sit joint top of the table with Hampton in what is fast shaping up to be a highly competitive league.
But Dodds is not getting carried away just yet.
His young Clarets face tough games against Hampton and Deeping over the next few weeks, fixtures their manager knows will test his team to the limit.
He said: "We played very well against Netherton, who made it very hard for us in the first periods of the match, but once we got the goals we did really well.
"I thought we battled too against a big side and it was a bit like Davids v Goliaths out there at one stage.
"But we took our chances well and by half-time we had pretty much ended the game with four goals which gave me a chance to give some of the other lads in the squad a bit of a run-out in the second half.
"We have started pretty well but the next two games, against Hampton and Deeping, will prove if we have what it takes to stay at the top of the table."
FOR Yaxley goals are a bit like buses, wait hours for one then a whole bunch come along at once.
And it was the same story on Saturday against Red Zone newcomers Societa Sportiva Italy who battled gamely to keep their visitors at bay for the first half.
But just when Yaxley looked like having to settle for a draw against a side which look to at last be finding their feet at this level, the Cuckoos hit four in the last five minutes to take the points.
Goals for Grant Tippett, Josh Elkan (2) and Lewis Wright did the damage as Yaxley's goals all came in a glut.
Manager Gavin Fulcher said: "To be fair to SSI they seem to be improving all the time and kept it goalless until the last few minutes.
"We looked like having to settle for a point and we couldn't have complained at that really but we got our goal and as per usual that relaxed us and we hit a few more quickfire efforts.
"Next week we have Hampton who are going really well,. We need to get something from that game if we are to stand any chance of competing at the top end of the table."
