PETERBOROUGH JUNIOR ALLIANCE 3 FELIXSTOWE 1 (Under 14 Inter-League EASY Cup Final)
THE Junior Alliance is the best league in the East Anglia region - it's official.
After the Under 12 representative side lifted their first EASY Cup trophy on Sunday, the Under 14s trotted out at Saffron Walden straight after to match their young league-mates and lift their own version of the cup for the second time in three years against Felixstowe.
Goals for Reece Currie, Connor Goddon and Joey Yeboah meant Mick Simpson's side more than made up for the disappointment of losing in last year's final against Cambridge.
With their near rivals well beaten in the previous round, it was Suffolk side Felixstowe who bore the brunt of last year's frustration as the city slickers fought their way to a comfortable win.
After going in at half-time with the scores locked at 0-0, defiant Alliance held firm under some early pressure before running up a two-goal lead through ICA Juventus striker Currie and Parkside's Goddon.
Felixstowe did manage to pull one back 10 minutes later but when Yeboah headed home after a well-worked set piece, the game was won, leaving manager Simpson with some very happy memories from his last match in charge.
He said: "The boys have been excellent from start to finish and I am very proud to have worked with such a bunch of committed young footballers.
"This was a massive game for us and they rose to the challenge superbly and always looked like winning it for a second time.
"Everyone wanted to make up for last year and we did that. But the occasion was tinged with sadness as it is the last time I will manage this group of players.
"They have been great throughout and managing them has been a real pleasure.
