Bourne boys hoping for a change of luck

BOURNE boss Kevin Bellairs has called on Lady Luck for a helping hand as the Division One title goes down to the wire.

So far this season the Wakes have had little by way of good fortune after being kicked out of the Lincs Cup on a technicality be
fore losing out to ICA Juventus in the final of the League Cup two weeks ago.

But with two more fixtures of their league campaign remaining, there is still an excellent chance that an up and down season could yet end on the highest of notes.

After Bellairs' boys drew 1-1 with title rivals ICA Juventus in the week before ending Blackstones challenge with a 3-2 win on Sunday - including a real goal-of-the-season contender from James Beck - Bourne now need just four more points to win the league.

So if the Lincolnshire lads can beat Netherton tomorrow night, a draw against ICA in their final game on Sunday will mean the league crown is theirs.

But Bellairs knows his side may yet need the rub of the green to get the job done and end the season with a trophy.

He said: "We have had stinking luck so far this season. Getting kicked out of the cup was a real gutter and we count ourselves unlucky to have lost in the final of the League Cup so we reckon it is about time we had a bit of luck.

"Netherton is going to be a hard game but if we can get the win we will be looking in good shape for the ICA game which should be a cracking contest and a worthy title decider."

MEANWHILE ICA kept up their bid for a treble of Hunts Cup, League Cup and the Division One title when Giuseppe Russo, Tyler Jex and Dion Di Cataldo fired the goals in a 3-1 win against Eye.

WHITTLESEY wrote their ticket out of Division Two on Sunday with a last day thumping of the much-monstered March.

A 12-1 win against the division's bottom club gave Dave Banks' side the points they needed to stay ahead of Crowland to claim the second promotion spot.

But rather than celebrate the huge win which puts his side in unchartered waters, Banks was instead full of sympathy after doing his best to prevent this latest March massacre.

He said: "We are obviously delighted with the performance and the promotion but I take no pleasure in giving sides a hiding like that.

"I actually took off some of our regular lads at 5-1 but the goals just kept going in which is hard luck on March as they never stopped trying.

"But I cannot fault my players for that and we are all looking forward to life in the top division, although we are well aware that we have plenty of work to do in the summer if we are to be competitive next season."
