ON the face of it telling a player who hit 40 goals last term that his best position is between the sticks would seem an odd call to make.
But for last year's Division Two champions Netherton Falcons it is working out rather well.
Since top sco
rer Bobby Watts pulled on the gloves, Falcons' fortunes have been on an upward curve, a run which continued with a 3-2 win against Hampton on Sunday.
Two goals for Ty Brundell and one for James Fiddes gave Glen Adams' side the win against third-placed Hampton.
But despite Watts' bringing some much-needed security at the back, his side's worrying tendency to concede penalties is still causing Adams the odd sleepless night.
He said: "It was a really good performance but I think that is the third time in a row we have given Hampton a penalty.
"We were 2-0 up and cruising then they got a goal back before we offered up the usual penalty.
"I have no complaints about the decision but we do need to stop giving them away.
"It didn't cost us against Hampton as Ty saved our bacon at the end with a cracking goal but it has cost us in the past. It is something we can work on and we are doing that.
"As for playing Bobby in goal, well he has been a revelation for us and made a massive difference at the back and he's given the defence a lot more confidence.
"We bought James Fiddes in to replace the goals Bobby used to score so we are not missing out up front either.
"If we can put a good run together then I am sure we can get into the top five by the end of the season."
