DEEPING made a successful start to what manager Paul Grundy hopes will become an adventure into the unknown with a 6-0 Lincolnshire Cup win against Blackstones on Sunday.

A hat-trick for Matthew Baynham, two goals for Jamie Sharpe and one for Ben Aspinall saw the Division One outfit made short work of their lower league opponents in the first-ever match contested between these two Junior Alliance clubs.

But if Deeping's players enjoyed taking on a team they do not face regularly in the league, Grundy hopes the draw will give his side the chance to expand their footballing horizons much further.

He said: "We enjoyed playing Blackstones because over the past few years we have played largely the same teams in Division One and we know all about them.

"So it is nice to face a fresh challenge and while we were comfortable in the end it was a good game of football and we are delighted to be in the next round.

"This is the first age group we have been able to enter the county cup with so we hope to build on this good start and put together a really good run.

"Hopefully it will be a real adventure as we are right on the southern tip of Lincolnshire and we are hoping to get drawn with a team up north in round two if possible.

"It will be a great experience for the lads to head off to a team they have probably never even heard of and it is something we are all looking forward to."

EYE United moved top of Division Three after a comfortable 4-1 win away to Deaconians on Sunday.

Two goals for Robert Bellamy, one for Ben Doyle and another for Connor Mitchell wrapped up the points which saw Dick Turner's side move a point clear of Leverington White, having played a game more.

Turner said: "We finished fourth last year and I hope we can be there or thereabouts this season too.

"We have added some new players from the First Division in the summer and they have strengthened our side considerably.

"We are continuing to develop as a team and our football is getting better and better as we progress through the age groups. The team has taken on board the concept of pass and move football and we will continue to develop that this season.

"We missed out on promotion last season which was disappointing but I am hopeful we can make the grade this time round."
