Phantoms will have a familiar look

IF it aint broke - don't fix it. That's the defiant message coming from Phantoms' HQ as contract negotiations with the playing squad get under way ahead of next season's English Premier League campaign.
With new coach Colin Patterson announced two weeks ago as a replacement for Phil David, it had been expected that the Canadian would want to put his own stamp on the team by bringing in some new faces.

But despite being described by Islanders coac
h Jesse Hammill as 'very much his own man', it appears Patterson is more than happy to toe the line and keep any changes to a minimum.

So while there is likely to be some player movement at the Peterborough Arena this summer, Phantoms 2008 are still likely to have a very familiar look when the season gets underway in just over three months time.

Director Jon Kynaston said: "The club is currently in the process of negotiating with players and we will have an announcement to make in about three weeks time, but I can say that there will not be huge changes to our line-up.

"We are in regular contact with Colin and he has let it be known that he is pretty happy with the playing resources that we have at the moment.

"There may be one of two changes from last season but nothing too fundamental - we did well with what we have and we want to build on that."

One of the players who may not be coming back, however, is influential Latvian star Maris Ziedins. He came out of retirement to replace Taras Foremsky midway through last season and played a large part in the team's KO Cup triumph. But recurring knee problems could force the Olympian out of the game for good.
