Phantoms preview: Rejuvenated Raiders certain to hit the Wall

NETMINDER Stephen Wall is likely to be shot at more times than a grouse in August this weekend as Phantoms look to build on their excellent start to the season.
Having earned a draw with the Slough Jets away from home before hammering Swindon Wildcats at the Peterborough Arena last Sunday, the Bretton outfit move into the latest round of English Premier League (EPL) games full of confidence.
Despite the loss of defenceman Andy Munroe - who fractured his jaw against Slough and could be out for a month - the city side hope to take maximum points and boost themselves up the EPL table.
But with a tricky trip to the rejuvenated Wightlink Raiders tonight followed by the visit of the Jets to Bretton tomorrow (face-off 5.30pm), Wall expects to be handling more rubber than a Kwik-fit fitter over the next couple of days.
"We have started the season well and all the boys are full of confidence but we know these two games will be tough," said Wall.
"Whenever we go to the Isle of Wight I face at least 30 shots and I know that it will be no different this time round, they will pepper them in.
"Under Gareth Endicott they seem to have started really well and surprised a lot of people by beating Guildford in their own barn.
"I have spoken to some of the Flames players since that match and they said they just under-estimated Wightlink and went out expecting to win.
"But we know we cannot do that if we are to get anything from their place. It is a very small rink which is hard for all away teams and they will make it very tough for us tonight."
Perhaps surprisingly the Geordie backstopper is more bullish when it comes to talking up his team's prospects against EPL leaders and reigning play-off champions the Slough Jets.
Wall said: "In our own barn, in front of our own fans we are going to be a very tough team to beat this season. It doesn't matter who we are playing, we will go out there expecting to win.
"Slough are a good team but they are not the team they were without Jan Krajicek and Les Millie. A few injuries here or there and they will struggle like when they lost in Romford last week.
"Of course it will be a tough game but it is one we are determined to win. We have an excellent set of attacking players and with young defencemen like Robert Ferrara and Thomas Jeffery coming through we are stronger at the back this season too.
"We are a couple of games behind the rest of the league so we are playing catch-up and it is important that we take all four points on offer this weekend."
