PETERBOROUGH Phantoms have made a huge investment in youth by launching their own ice hockey academy.
In a bid to keep the supply line of home grown players like Lewis Buckman and James Morgan intact, the Bretton club has just announced plans to create a Phantoms-dedicated academy to nurture the stars of the future.

The new academy will see an inc
rease in the amount of 'ice time' for junior players as well as guaranteeing the most talented prospects a chance to step up to the Phantoms first team.

Director Jon Kynaston said: "As a senior club our ideal is to have as many local players as we can pulling on the Phantoms jersey. To do this we have launched the academy to support the junior club and offer stars of the future as much support to their future goals as we can."

The academy will not affect the junior club and the teams operating within it. The two will work alongside each other and the training and games of Peterborough Junior Ice Hockey Club (PJIHC) will not be affected.

PJIHC head coach Stevie Johnson said: "I support the academy and I will help out wherever I can. The academy gives the opportunity for the talented junior players to gain valuable extra training to help them progress through to the Phantoms ranks and beyond."
