PHANTOMS' defenceman James Morgan has revealed how he turned his back on some of British ice hockey's biggest names this summer to commit to his hometown club.
It was announced at the weekend that 26 year-old Morgan had signed on for another season with the Bretton-based English Premier League outfit along with junior defenceman Robert Ferrara.

The announcement ends speculation surrounding the GB international after it emerged that a number of Elite League sides as well as one of Phantoms' closest EPL rivals had been pressing hard for his signature.

Rather than take the bait and head off to ply his trade in pastures new, the soon-to-be father didn't think twice about putting pen to paper for a club which has always been close to his heart.

"Every summer I get a lot of enquiries and this year has been no different," he said.

"I have had Bracknell Bees on the phone a lot over the past few weeks and have also had a few inquiries as to my availability from teams in the Elite League.

"But I made it clear I have no intention of leaving Peterborough Phantoms. They are my club and it means an awful lot for me to pull on the jersey.

"Since I came back I have had a brilliant time playing hockey here and the fans have just been great so I can see no reason why I would want to change that.

"I have a great life here off the ice too and my wife Natasha is expecting our first child soon so I am a very happy man at the moment.

"All round I just love playing in Peterborough. We had a good season last year and I expect us to do even better this time out."

Just how well Morgan feels the team can go is a big part of the reason he did not hesitate in signing again when the call came last week.

He said: "I truly believe that this team can win the league next season.

"We have three of the best import forwards in the league who we all know will gel straight off the bat as they are used to playing with one another.

"That gives us an advantage on other teams who may be trying to bed in new players.

"It is great news that Dwayne Newman is coming back too as he is one of the best out and out defenders in the game and he's great to play with and have around the club.

"But one of the biggest factors is that all the players, British and imports, get on really well.

"It is like a big family here and if we can keep together as a group over the coming season I am sure we can achieve great things."
