JESSE HAMMILL 15 THE REST 4
IT was a family affair at Jesse Hammil's testimonial on Satuday night.

With dad Dave over from Canada, rather than risk taking a hit of the old man the Pirates, Phantoms and now Islanders legend decided to err on the side of caution for the game which marked his 12th year in British hockey.

Rather than risk taking a hefty check from Hammill senior 24 hours ahead of the big cup game in Sheffield, junior wisely decided to stick the big fella alongside him rather on the opposition bench.

And it worked out a treat for the Canadian, but things fared a little less smoothly for line mate on the night Robert Amos.

"There was no way I was going to give my dad the chance to squash me against the boards so I played with him which seemed the safest option and he did okay.

He even got a goal and managed to sweet talk the scorer into giving him nine assists, so he reckoned he'd had a good night.

"Other than dad I picked all the best guys in my line so we would win but I also had my secret weapon – Robert Amos.

"Everyone on their team were so busy trying to shoot pucks at his big head, I even had his mum shouting at me to get insurance!

"But it was a great night and I would like to thank all the guys who turned out for me as well as all the fans."

Among those turning out were current Phantoms skipper Lewis Buckman, Dwayne Newman, GB international Dave Clarke and Antti Kohvakka all out to mark Hammill's contribution to Peterborough ice hockey in style.

He said: "I will remember Saturday night for a long time as I have enjoyed every moment of my time playing in this city.

"I have a lot of great memories.
