CITY of Peterborough Ladies enjoyed a winning start to the East Division One North season.
The city side beat Watton 3-2 at Bretton Gate thanks to goals from Lou Wright, Pippa Meakin and Michelle Collins, who has returned to club from Loughborough Students.
It wasn't such a good day for the other local teams at this level, especially ne
wly-promoted March who went down 8-0 at Colchester. Wisbech were held to a draw by St Ives and Bourne were beaten 3-1 at Saffron Walden.
City seconds went down 2-0 at Lincoln in their first Division Two North West fixture, but City thirds picked up a point in their opening Cambs Premier Division match at Cambridge South. Sorcha Brivio-Stone scored the City goal.
Pam Jacobs and Charlie Hagues were on target as City fourths beat March seconds in the Cambs Division One League Cup competition.
Daniel Shirley bagged a hat-trick in the first 10 minutes for March men in their friendly with Norwich Dragons, but it wasn't good enough to secure a win as a 5-3 half-time lead turned into a remarkable 7-7 draw by the final whistle! Matt Bamford, Josh Birt, Ryan Wright and Adam Graham scored the other March goals.
Craig Petrie scored both goals as City of Peterborough seconds beat Ipswich seconds 2-1, while Elliott Stevens also scored twice as City thirds won 4-2 at Northampton Saints.
Young James Fisher was outstanding as City fifths beat opposition from Saints 3-1. He scored twice with Harry Cutforth completing the scoring.
