WISBECH and City of Peterborough seconds took the step up in standard in East League hockey in their stride over the weekend.
Both clubs were playing Premier A Division matches for the first time in their history and both recorded outstading wins.

Wisbech toppled St Albans, the runners-up in this division last season, 4-3 and City pipped Bedford 3-2 thanks to a late penalty stroke from cool hand Neil Lake.

Bradley Apted (2) and Sam Blunt (2) shared the Bedford goals. Danny Needham, who had scored for City firsts earlier in the day, and Craig Petrie were the other City goalscorers.

Market Deeping were another newly-promoted side to start the season with a good win. They were 2-0 down early on to Norwich City seconds, recovered brilliantly to storm 5-2 ahead, but then conceded two late goals to prompt a nervy finale.

Paul Tancred (2), James Sharp, Andy Brassington and Ali Rowledge were the men on the mark for Deeping in Division Two North.

City of Peterborough thirds were also handsome winners at this level. Adrian Milner (3), Elliot Stevens, Sam Ure, Josh Young and Jaygo Norris were the scorers in a 7-0 win at Sudbury seconds.

March made an explosive start to the Division Three North West season by thrashing Boston 11-2. It was 8-0 at half-time before the home side eased up.

Jody Betts led the spree with four goals, while Adam Graham (2), Josh Birt (2), Rob Mitchell (2) and Ashley Welland also found the target.

Adam Triggs bagged a hat-trick for March thirds in their 4-2 win over St Neots in Division Five North West and Chris Green also claimed three goals for City of Peterborough fifths in Division Four North West.

Unfortunately Green was fighting something of a lone battle as Spalding seconds won the match 4-3. City fourths gained revenge in Division Three North West as Matt Bamford's two goals clinched a 2-1 win over Spalding's senior side.

Wisbech Ladies won the big local derby against City of Peterborough in East Division One North thanks to a solitary goal in the opening 15 minutes.

Bourne beat Old Buckenham 2-0 with goals from Karen Timby and Jenny Jackson, but March have made a horrible start to life at this level following promotion last season.

March went down 11-2 at home to St Ives to make it 19 goals conceded in two matches. They were 8-0 down at half-time before goals from Lauren Oakman and Robyn Gribble ensured some respectability.
