According to a local NHS report, while Peterborough's life expectancy is improving, there is still a large gap between the city's figures and the national average.
The statistics, released by Peterborough's Primary Care Trust, show that the average life expectancy for a woman in the city is 80.2 years, compared with an average for England and Wales of 81.1.

The life expectancy for a man in Peterborough is 76.1 years, compared with the national average of 76.9.

The figures also showed that the city had a slightly higher rate of infant mortality than the rest of the country, with a rate of 0.6 per cent, compared with 0.51 per cent nationally.

See Saturday's Evening Telegraph for a special report on life expectancy in Peterborough.
