Hampton Amateur Theatre Society is preparing for its first ever charity premiere with their latest production.
Hampton Amateur Theatre Society (HATS) will donate all the money made at the first night of its three day run of Who Dares Wins – the group's latest two-act production – to Sue Ryder Care, to raise funds for the Thorpe Hall Hospice.

The group, which performed a sell- out weekend of the comedy Playing Away in September last year, are hoping that its latest production will be as successful as its previous efforts.

Secretary of the group Giselle Rawlings said: "As this is the first time we have performed over three nights, we thought we should give something back.

"A few of us in the group have been affected by cancer in the past, and when we had a vote for the charity we should support, Sue Ryder came out on top."

Rehearsals are well under way for the comedy, which is taking place later this year.

The first section, called Bye-Bye Mr Heim will also include a special cameo appearance from Hereward FM DJ Kevin Lawrence.

Mrs Rawlings said: "We are delighted that Kevin has joined the team.

"He is lending his voice to the role of radio DJ, which will be fantastic.

"We are going to appear on his Hereward FM show to publicise the event later in the year, and we are all looking forward to that."

Mr Lawrence said: "I'm really excited to be involved with this year's HATS production.

"The guys, I know, are a very talented bunch of people.

"Although my role in the play is off-tape, and although it is slightly different to my actual job on Hereward FM's Breakfast show, I was thrilled to be asked. I look forward to seeing the production and urge you to go and see it."

The second act of the evening, called Blue Suede Blues, will be set in a care home, focusing on the antics of Grace and Lily in their attempts to liven up the home.

Along with the new play, 2008 has provided the society with a new start, as they are moving the production to a new venue.

Their previous performances all took place at the Amenity Hall in Yaxley, but this year they have moved to Peterborough High School for the performances.

The performances will take place from Thursday, June 19 to Saturday, June 21 at 8pm, with the Thursday performance in aid of the charity.

Tickets for the show, costing £5 for adults or £4 concessions, will be available from the group's website www.hamptonscomedytheatre.co.uk, later in the year.
