Stanground Newt Ponds are thought to be one of the best breeding sites for great crested and smooth newts in Peterborough.
Scattered around the site are piles of logs and grass clippings, left to provide shelter for the adult newts.
WHERE: From the A1 take the A1139 east towards Peterborough. Take fourth exit for Farcet and Stanground. Cross back over the A1139 and turn right at first roundabout on to the B1091 towards Farcet. Take the first right into Buntings Lane. Park on the road between the two halves of the reserve.
WHEN: Spring to see frogs and newts.
Summer to see dragonflies, damselflies and meadow butterflies.
