Sponsored by Wilkinsons - Here we reveal some of the finalists who have been nominated for an award and will attend our glittering award ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough this Friday, July 4.
Peggy Stokes

Peggy Stokes is not about to let a little thing like retirement slow her down.

While others her age are settling into a life of gardening and gentle strolls, Peggy is using her twilight years to try to do some real
good for her community.

Peggy (71), of Arundle Road, Walton, Peterborough, has been a member of her local neighbourhood watch scheme for 25 years, is chairwoman of the Neighbourhood Watch Association and the Neighbourhood Police Panel, and serves on the Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Watch executive group.

She is a firm advocate of neighbourhood watch schemes, and as well as working for her own local one, also helps set them up in other areas.

Jennie George

Jennie George is the refugee outreach worker based at Axiom Housing Association in Peterborough.

Her colleagues says she is an inspiration and always tends to go that one step further for people.

The majority of the refugees she deals with do not have any possessions other than their clothes when they are moved into their permanent home, and Jennie always ensures they have the essentials they need to live comfortably, such as a blanket, food, gas and electricity.

Jennie works hard to dispel the myths regarding asylum seekers and refugees. Her colleagues say they cannot think of a better word to describe Jennie's work in the community other than outstanding.

Lesley Tatlow

Lesley Tatlow devotes most of her spare time to helping young people on the Welland estate in Peterborough.

She arranged the Blue Mobile to open on Saturdays providing a place for youngsters to hang out and have lunch, and also managed to get furniture and an extra pool table installed there.

This venture is for over 13s, but she also helps with younger children, who attend activities at the nearby Charteris Centre.

And as if this wasn't enough to keep her busy, Lesley is also secretary of the Welland Residents' Association and is always organising events such as the Welland Fun Day and holiday activities for schoolchildren, which the association funds.

She also finds times for her own family in spite of all her other commitments and is definitely a women in the community to be proud of.
