SUPER nanny Mary Poppins encouraged children to "go fly a kite", now the plea is being echoed by the Ferry Meadows-based Great Ouse Kite Flyers club.
The club are constantly on the lookout for new members for an activity they say is perfect for all the family.
Secretary Jill Ferrer said: "We currently have more than 60 members with a wide range of ages. It's such fantastic fun, that we really hope we can get more people involved in this wonderful sport."
Club members, who fly their kites once a month at Ferry Meadows, are urging families to come along and have a go.
They were recently contacted by Forever Summer, a play scheme run by the city's special schools, for advice on which kites to buy.
Mrs Ferrer (57) said: "Rather than go and buy kites which after one go would probably just sit in a cupboard, we invited them to come along and use ours. That way they could get a taste for it.
"We had 18 youngsters come down and they had a wonderful time, and their faces lit up as they flew the kites."
She added: "It is very weather-orientated, as you can imagine. For high winds you need a strong kite with lots of holes, and for a small breeze a soft fabric works best.
"There is a technique to flying them as well, and we are more than happy for people to come and try our kites out and get some advice."
Club membership costs £10 per year per family, and the club has multi-purpose kites to suit all weather.
Mrs Ferrer said: "I would encourage anyone to give it a go, it's a great way of keeping fit and is really sociable. We have been running for 28 years and even hold a kite festival in June."
