Jemma Walton
Colleen McQuillien might be a beautiful young girl – but she wowed the crowds as Mowgli when she starred in a Key Summer School production of The Jungle Book.
"I don't know how I came across as a boy, I just acted my part," said the 11-year-old, who has enjoyed the summer schools for the past three years.

Colleen first went along with a friend, and enjoyed taking part in The Wizard of Oz so much that she has returned for the following two years for the maximum of two weeks.

She has since starred in Oliver, Anything Goes, The Jungle Book and Me and My Girl.

Colleen, who goes to Stilton Primary School, and lives in the village near Peterborough, said: "I would recommend the summer schools to anyone. They are a lot of fun, you learn a lot of new skills, such as singing and dancing, and they give you a lot of confidence.

"They have also taught me things like how to project my voice, which comes in handy at times!"

Colleen has caught the musicals bug, and loved the BBC TV show I'd Do Anything, and although she wanted Jessie to win, she thought that Jodie had a nice voice.

"I'd love to work in the West End when I'm older," she said. "And I like going to London and watching shows with my mum.

"We've been to see Fame, Stomp, Wicked! and Blood Brothers, and are planning to see Billy Elliot.

"But my dad isn't as keen on them as we are!"
