THOUSANDS of people basked in the sunshine as a festival of fur and feathers descended on the East of England Showground on Sunday (12 October).
The annual East of England Autumn Show benefited from the glorious weather which undoubtedly helped to pull in the visitors in their droves for a host of attractions including a 10ft tall pair of wellington boots.

The giant boots were on display to raise money for the farmers charity – the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) – and were made by members of the North Bedfordshire Young Farmers' Club.

It was an ingenious way to celebrated Welly Week, which runs until Saturday 18, and to raise awareness for those in need of help in the farming community.

Marketing manager, Vikki Guy said: "We have had a brilliant day, with great weather and a brilliant turnout, too.The weather was probably the most enjoyable part and everybody has had a really good time with the variety that has been on show. It's been the best for a few years and thousands have been here for it. The showground was really busy."

The autumn show was home to animals of all shapes and sizes and events included the Wisbech Shire Horse Show, welly wanging, an exhibition of poultry and waterfowl, and eventing for pigs and sheep.

However, one of the main crowd pullers of the day was the staging of one of the heats of Scruffts - the Kennel Club's search for the crossbreed of the year. Pets were entered on the day and organisers say there was vast amount of interest in the event.

Wrapping up the doggy delights was the final of the Burgess Supa Dog Agility Stakes and Terrier and Lurcher championships.

Preparations to make next year's event bigger and better than ever have already started and Vikki added: "Next year we are going to have our first giant vegetable competition. We had it advertised at the show and people have been showing interest for that, so that will be another thing for the show next year."
