1. Roots & Echoes – The Coral. Fans Noel Gallagher and Arctic Monkeys can't both be wrong about these trend-free Scousers.
Great songs that can switch from glad to sad in a heartbeat, this is Britpop at its finest.

2. Because Of The Times – Kings Of Leon. The princes of US swamp rock thrill like no others.

3. Civilians – Joe Henry. From Madonna's brother-in-law, this was the year's best Dylan-esque album.

4. Favourite Worst Nightmare – Arctic Monkeys. They can do no wrong, another year of the monkey.

5. Men's Needs, Women's Needs – The Cribs. West Yorkshire's finest are full of energetic charm and great songs.

6. Art Pop – Githead. Ex-Wire man's band delivers exactly what it says on the tin - art and pop.

7. Love It When I Feel Like This – The Twang. Brummie band evokes the spirit of Oasis with their laddish rock.

8. In Our Bedroom After The War – Stars. Canadian dream pop as exemplified by the beautiful Barricade.

9. Kala – M.I.A. She takes more risks with her global hip-hop than some artists manage in a lifetime.

10. Aman Iman – Tinariwen. Saharan freedom fighters turned desert blues band. Exotic and accessible.

The album of 2007 was definitely Straw Bear, Victims of the Engineers. The lead singer has got such a lovely voice.
