A peek into the lives of some of the great and the good in Peterborough, and the music, films and books that have captured their imaginations.
This week we talk to Steve Jason, city concert promoter and owner of both the City Club in Priestgate and The Met Lounge in Bridge Street.
Over the years, Steve has brought the likes of The Libertines and Hard-Fi to the city, along with more recent rising superstars such as Pigeon Detectives and We Are Scientists.
Is there a film star, rock star, artist or writer you admire?
I guess I've a sneaking respect for Bruce Springsteen – I think still to be at the top after some 30 years and still be seen as a credible artist takes some work.
Is there a TV programme you couldn't live without?
Any football programme is worth watching, plus, I've become a convert to Dragons' Den and Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
Do you remember the first record you bought – what was it, and where did you buy it?
I think it was C'mon Feel The Noise by Slade and it probably came from Boots, which was on Bridge Street in those days.
Tell us about a recent discovery in music, film, etc...something you've seen or heard recently that you would recommend....
Jack Savoretti. I got a demo CD sent through from his agent and booked him straight away for The Met. I put the CD into the in-house player at The City Club, and every time it came on people would ask who the singer was.
Tell us about any guilty pleasures lurking in your CD or film collections...something you know is a bit naff but you can't help yourself.
I do like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and I must confess to liking Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses.
Is there a favourite film of yours, if so, what is it you like about it?
Raiders Of The Lost Ark. I can still watch it time and time again. I just think it was the ultimate 'hero' movie when it came out.
Do you have a favourite album?
I haven't really got a favourite, because they can change, but I've enjoyed the new We Are Scientists album. I also like listening to Paul Weller.
And how about a favourite book?
I'm happy to read anybody's biography who is involved in the music business, but it has to be the official version – I don't do 'the unauthorised account' of things.
Tell me about a live music experience that sticks in your memory...
I saw Bruce Springsteen at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on the Tunnel Of Love tour and it was – and remains – the best outdoor show I've ever seen. He held 40,000 people in the palm of his hand for three and a half hours.
