This week we talk to
Dave King, manager of
the Broadway Theatre.
Dave is proud to have brought the likes of Billy Connolly to the city, but would class Darren Brown as his favourite act to grace the stage of The Broadway.
Top of his wish list for future shows would be the hilarious and hugely popular Peter Kay.

Is there a film star/pop star/rock star/artist/writer you admire? And why...

It has to be Elvis Presley. As somebody once famous said, "Before Elvis there was nothing", he did everything before anyone else.

Is there a TV programme you couldn't live without?

Formula One and Top Gear

Do you remember the first record you bought – what was it, and where did you buy it?

T Rex – Ride a White Swan, it cost me 45p and I bought it in a small record shop at the back of an electrical shop in Whittlesey. I am sure it's no longer there.

Tell us about a recent discovery in music, film, etc... something you've seen or heard recently that you would recommend...

Not really music or film, but one thing that I would recommend that has changed my life in the past 18 months is stopping smoking. I did it after one visit to a hypnotherapist. Brilliant, so easy and quick.

Tell us about any guilty pleasures lurking in your CD or film collections – something you know is a bit naff but you can't help yourself.

Probably the number of records that are in my collection that are not mine. What I mean is some of them are from the various radio stations I used to work in and have somehow found themselves in my record library.

Favourite film... and why

Arthur with Dudley Moore. He was such a comedy genius, and I have always thought it's a very funny film, it can cheer anyone up within a few minutes.

Favourite album... and why

After 18 years playing songs on the radio and four years programming the Broadway Theatre, I have too many favourite albums to list. But one album I would go back into a burning house for is my signed Billy Connolly album.

Favourite book...and why

The John Peel autobiography Margrave Of The Marshes. A brilliant read. I met John in 1991 at a race day at Silverstone. We had such a great time, he was a really nice guy. It was such a shock when he died, and I had to buy the book as soon as it came out.

Is there a song or individual piece of music you always come back to?

Roberta Flack, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. The very first time I heard it I loved it and I would recommend anyone to listen to it.

What are you reading at the moment?

I could say Stephen Hawkins' The Universe In A Nutshell, but actually Jeremy Clarkson, which I got for Christmas and have finally got round to reading.

Tell me about a live music experience that sticks in your memory...

The one that sticks in my memory was when I introduced Status Quo at the Mallard Park in Peterborough. There was a fantastic atmosphere, a massive stage and even bigger sound system, about 5,000 people all eagerly waiting for their heroes to come on stage. The gig went really well until near the end, the roof was leaking that night and the rain eventually made its way onto the mixing desk . . . BANG, and that was it.
