IN this feature, we take a peek into the lives of some of the great and the good associated with our fair city, and find out about the music, films and books that have captured their imaginations.
Whether they are Proust-reading arts aficionados or action movie and lads' mag obsessives, we will discover the truth behind their cultural preferences as they reveal a few of their favourite things.

This week we talk to Conor Owen, a acoustic songwriter from Peterborough. Conor supported a host of top acts at Peterborough venues this summer.

Is there a film star/pop star/rock star/artist/writer you admire? And why...

Damien Rice, because his music is amazing and his lyrics are very intelligent and philosophical in a way. He seems to be very insightful person and I admire that.

Is there a TV programme you couldn't live without?

I think I've become addicted to Scrubs over the last couple of years, it's just too funny.

Do you remember the first record you bought – what was it, and where did you buy it?

I think it was Sugar Ray's single Every Morning, from Virgin (now Zavvi) in Queensgate. What a dodgy first song to buy.

Tell us about a recent discovery in music, film, etc...something you've seen or heard recently that you would recommend...

I've recently discovered a guy called Joe Bonnamassa. He's an amazing blues guitarist and songwriter. Definitely give him a listen, he's got lots of tasty guitar licks to get stuck in to.

Tell us about any guilty pleasures lurking in your CD or film collections – something you know is a bit naff but you can't help yourself.

I've got a few Motley Crue CDs. I love them, even though they're a bit cheesy rock, but I don't think my friends are too keen.

Favourite film...and why?

Detroit Rock City. It ticks all three boxes of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll and it's so funny. It'll have you in stitches.

Favourite album...and why?

Where The Light Is by John Mayer. It features three sets of his music, acoustically, with the trio and with a full band. There are some beautiful songs on that album, so buy it.

Favourite book...and why?

The Big Book of Being Rude. Because you'll always have good come backs, no matter who gives you a hard time.

Is there a song or individual piece of music you always come back to?

I always listen to a song called I Can Climb Mountains by a band called Hell Is For Heroes. Or Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley. Two amazing songs that I always listen to.

What are you reading at the moment?

I've just finished reading Anthony Kiedis's autobiography (lead singer of Red Hot Chilli Peppers). He was a crazy fella when he was younger.

Tell me about a live music experience that sticks in your memory?

I think I'll always remember me and my friend watching Velvet Revolver (featuring Slash from Guns N' Roses) and wrestling with two other people for Slash's sweaty towel. I know it sounds disgusting, but he is a legend! However, we lost the fight for the towel.
