IN this feature, we take a peek into the lives of some of the great and the good associated with our fair city, and find out about the music, films and books that have captured their imaginations.
Ben Groom is keyboardist with band Rosalita - who play Peterborough's Met Lounge on Friday, 12 September.
Whether they are Proust-reading arts aficionados or action movie and lads' mag obsessives, we will discover the truth behind their cultural preferences as they reveal a few of their favourite things.
This week we talk to Ben Groom, keyboardist with Ipswich act Rosalita. The band are playing Deaf By Stereo's one year anniversary gig at the Met Lounge next Friday. They have played in Peterborough three times already.
Is there a film star/pop star/rock star/artist/writer you admire? And why...
Too many to mention, but probably David Bowie comes highest. He is the whole package – image, songwriting, singing, musicianship and constantly pushing his fans ears in different directions.
Is there a TV programme you couldn't live without?
Knightmare – this children's TV show was the first one I loved when I was young. As a band we love Trailer Park Boys (a Canadian comedy).
Do you remember the first record you bought – what was it, and where did you buy it?
Oh, it was a bad '90s dance song called You Got To Let The Music by Capella. I brought it from John Menzies in Ipswich. It's not there anymore.
Tell us about a recent discovery in music, film, etc...something you've seen or heard recently that you would recommend...
That would be the Golden Silvers – a great band who won the chance to play Glastonbury this year. There will go on to big things.
Tell us about any guilty pleasures lurking in your CD or film collections – something you know is a bit naff but you can't help yourself.
The Very Best of Chicago – complete schmoltz but I know all the words!
Favourite film...and why
Rocky IV . . . ahem.
Favourite album...and why
Too many. Appetite For Destruction, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Abbey Road, Hunky Dory, Pet Sounds, Innervisions, Led Zep IV . . . this could go on and on.
Favourite book...and why
Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues . . . does that count as a book? It's a great work of art.
Is there a song or individual piece of music you always come back to?
All of the favourite albums I've listed above really – can go a year without listening to one and then stick it in the car and it's like you listened to it yesterday!
Tell me about a live music experience that sticks in your memory...
Playing at V2007 (Rosalita won a competition to perform at the V Festival, they were on before an acoustic set by the Foo Fighters). Also watching the Led Zeppelin reunion last year was just amazing.
And what are you up to this weekend?
I couldn't possibly say – it involves using my skill as a musician to earn a living while playing other people's songs – but not with Rosalita . . . shameful!
