MORE than 100 people have vowed to set up an action group in a bid to save the future of a popular wildlife haven near Peterborough.
At a meeting, villagers, groups and organisations turned out to pledge their support to re-opening the Peakirk Wildfowl Gardens after concerns the 9.6-acre site is about to be put up for sale.

Peakirk Parish Council set up the meeting, where it was agreed to investigate the possibility of purchasing the site from the current owners and bringing it into public ownership.

Peakirk Village Hall was packed out with people, including Peterborough City Council Natural Networks project officer James Fisher, who said: "This part of the northern Peterborough is area particularly poor for green open space."

Parish councillor Mel Boustead said the next step would be to start setting up an action group.

100 people. That means the vast majority either couldn't be bothered, or don't give a damn if the space is lost.
Well done to the few who are making the effort, shame on the rest of you
