FROM small acorns, grow large oaks and that message was read loud and clear by eco-savvy pupils at Northborough Primary School.
Stamford Homes had sponsored the environmental and educational Acorn Project in its efforts to encourage youngsters from across the area to become more aware of how they can help and save wildlife and habitats.
This was taken on board by the eager
youngsters who scooped first prize for their Wildlife Garden by Year One, which had transformed an ordinary patch of ground into a haven for birds and a home for insects and mini-beasts.
The Environmental Awards Scheme saw more than 100 primary, junior and village schools in the area take part and the school were thrilled to pick up their certificates.
The Lincolnshire based Acorn Projects judge Steve Shore said: "The way that the children presented the project on a series of A2 posters was excellent, and it was nice to see some hand written pieces by the children explaining their work and how it would benefit the garden.
"They worked really hard both in the garden and in the classroom, well done to them."
The awards scheme had encouraged children, parents and teachers to become involved in an environmental project within their school, or within their local community either as a group, class or whole school project.
