AFTER assembling one of the largest orchestras ever seen in the Peterborough, a group is preparing to once again wow audiences with a stunning classical display.
The City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra (CPSO) will be performing music from The Bartered Bride, at the Broadway Theatre on Sunday evening.
The piece was Czech composer Bedrich Smetana’s second, and arguably most famous opera, which was produced in 1866.
Rising star Katy Smith (15), who in 2006 at the age of 13 was the youngest concerto soloist the orchestra has worked with, will again be performing, much to the delight of the event organisers.
CPSO chairman Stephen Osborn said: “Our last concert was the hugely successful performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony, The Resurrection, at Peterborough Cathedral in April.
“After assembling one of the largest bodies of musicians ever gathered in Peterborough, we are now returning to a more traditional concert, but one that superbly reflects the summer season.
“Katy Smith is an absolutely fantastic violinist, to think she is only 15 is unbelievable. I just don’t know how someone of that age could display such a high level of ability. I’m sure she is going places, it is great to have her involved.
“We have always felt privileged to work with some of the best musicians in the country, and we feel particularly pleased to be directed by the fantastically enthusiastic and inspiring conductor, Russell Keable.
“Russell has taken the CPSO forward enormously since he started working with us in 2004, and under his guidance we have had the opportunity to play a tremendously wide range of wonderful music.
“This will be the first concert we have conducted with the support of Moore Stephens Accountants. We are truly greatful to them for the sponsorship of the coming year.”
