BOX office smash Billy Elliott paved the way for a new generation of T Rex fans with its use of I Love To Boogie.
Mark Bolan tribute T.Rextasy is still achieving continued success, 16 years after singer Danielz first came up with the idea of forming the band.
T.Rextasy play Peterborough's Broadway Theatre tonight (Friday), and Danielz told The Guide a little about the show and how it all came about.
Danielz said T.Rextasy attracts the 35 to 55-year-olds who loved Bolan, but also their children and even their children's children.
"I Love To Boogie is on the young children's curriculum and was in the film Billy Elliott, and it's paved the way for a new generation of fans.
"We get people the original Tyrannosaurus Rex from 1967, then the Bolan T. Rex fans from the glam period, and then the ones who got into the music through Billy Elliott."
A Bolan fan since his early teens, Danielz formed T.Rextasy in 1992.
"I'd been in original bands all my life and I wanted to play the music I loved," he added.
Since then, T.Rextasy have performed all over the world, including one very special show at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire last year.
Special guests who attended were Marc Almond, Shakin' Stevens, Bolan's partner Gloria Jones, his producer Tony Visconti with a string quartet, Linda Lewis, Dr Robert from The Blowmonkeys, Ray Dorset from Mungo Jerry and Clem Burke, of Blondie, who travelled from LA for the two-hour show.
The DVD of the show is out now.
"This year is the Greatest Hits Tour, and every song we do was a single. If you're a fan you'll know every single song.
"If you're more of a casual fan, you might not remember the title, but when you hear it you'll know of it.
"We still do some rock venues, but theatre audiences are where it's at for us – it's 100 per cent loyalty. That's what is so great about coming back to Peterborough"
Voted Number 1 in the BBC's Battle of the Fantasy bands, T.Rextasy guarantee to get audiences on their feet with their performances of T.Rex classics such as Get It On, Children Of The Revolution, Metal Guru, 20th Century Boy and Telegram Sam.
They are the only tribute band to be authorised by the controllers of Marc Bolan's music catalogue.
T.Rextasy's lead singer Danielz bears such an uncanny resemblance to glam rock inventor Marc Bolan that former T.Rex guitarist Jack Green said, "It's just like seeing Marc again."
T.Rextasy themselves were hailed by former T.Rex drummer Bill Legend as "the closest you'll ever get to the real thing".
Tickets for tonight's show are £15.50 (concessions £14.50) and are available by visiting
