Back then, they were being tipped for success by both NME and Kerrang!, and laid claim to being only the second unsigned band to ever sell out London Astoria.

What followed was a riotous 2007, with shows selling out all over the world, including one at the 5,000 capacity Brixton Academy.

This year has been a much more sedate affair with the band keeping shows to a minimum so they can concentrate on a second album.

The Guide spoke to guitarist Rory Clewlow ahead of next week's show at The Cresset, in Bretton, Peterborough.

Back in January last year, Enter Shikari played a sell-out show at the Radius venue – a room which had not hosted a live rock gig for nearly 10 years until they took to the stage.

"We have played The Met Lounge and The Park a few times. Peterborough has always been really good to us," he said.

"The last gig was great as well, so it will be nice to get back to the city."

"We specifically wanted to do some of the least toured towns and cities on this tour."

The main reason the critics championed the band was because of their unique sound – a mix of rave and hardcore rock music, which has delighted mosh pits all across the country.

The band have a large teenage following. Their show at Peterborough's Radius saw a crowd of more than 350 go crazy to the band's set, even though they had yet to release an album.

With tickets still available for their Cresset gig, which has a capacity of 1,100, it will give their legion of new fans an opportunity to see what they missed out on last time.

Rory revealed that the band were working on a new album, and it would be recorded and mastered in the Isle of Wight.

He added: "We have a new single coming out to tie in with the tour. Our new sound is more drum 'n' bass influenced, it will be appeal to people who are into Pendulum I guess.

"We did do a few overseas festivals in the summer, which was a lot of fun. It's less tiring than doing a full tour, as it's one day on, one day off.

"This tour we are doing now is back to one a night for a month, so it will take a bit of getting used to again."

Before they got on national tours, the band had to battle against trying to keep university careers going, as they played three or four mid-week gigs travelling across the country in a small ex-Royal Mail van while trying to get back home in time for 9am lectures.

Now all this is a distant memory, as they set off on part two of their mission to spread their dance-rock sound to all corners of the globe.
