THE Conservatives strengthened their grip on Peterborough City Council by gaining four seats in yesterday's election.
The party increased its seats to 43, making gains in Eye & Thorney, Paston, Walton and Werrington South.
The night's biggest losers were the Independent group, with long-serving councillors David Raines and John Bartlett losing their town hall seats.
Meanwhile, Labour's Nazim Khan seized control of Central ward from the Tories.
The make-up of the council is now Conservative (43), Independent (6), Liberal (3), Liberal Democrat (3) and Labour (2).
