Peterborough City Council elections take place on Thursday, May 1 2008. Politics Reporter Jonny Muir will speak to all 70 candidates and ask them what they stand for and why they deserve your vote.
June Bull (Conservative)EX-JOURNALIST and civil servant June Bull, of Oundle Road, Orton Longueville, is the secretary of Peterborough Local History Society, a member of Peterborough Deanery Synod and a bereavement supporter at Thorpe Hall.
She said: "Collectively, I think we have a winning team to tackle anti-social behaviour, improve local transport and traffic flows, better manage our environment and generally put the wow factor back in to Werrington.
"Every individual matters to me and your concerns are my concerns."
Sheila Walsh (Liberal Democrat)Sheila Walsh, of Hythegate, Werrington, ran recruitment agencies in Australia and London before settling in Peterborough 13 years ago.
In last year's Werrington South election, she came second.
She said: "Councils dominated by one group cannot create a balance and discussion of ideas.
"We are a party with a new leader that encourages debate. I am standing because I work as a market researcher. My job is to get to the bottom of things. I hate waste in manpower, in resources, in talent.
"People should vote because they believe in our ability. "
Janet Goodacre (Labour)Having lived in Werrington for the last five years, Janet Goodacre, of Copsewood, has been involved with the Friends of Cuckoo's Hollow and Werrington Neighbourhood Council.
She said: "My main concern for Werrington is to keep it a low crime area and ensure that people have a good environment to live in.
"I am not opposed to the redevelopment of the Werrington Centre and expansion of the new Tesco store, but I question whether the centre is really the right place for such an expansion, as it is likely to bring more traffic and larger vehicles into the area."
John Fox (independent)First elected in 2002, ex-policeman John Fox is a member of the Friends of Cuckoo's Hollow.
Cllr Fox, of Church Close, Newborough, co-ordinates Shopmobility, a charity that provides wheelchairs for shoppers in the Queensgate centre.
He said: "I find being a councillor a tremendous challenge which I embrace wholeheartedly as I fully enjoy the work within the Werrington community, meeting people and trying my best to help them in any way that I can.
"I believe that politics is there to serve the people, not the people to serve the politics."
